The Kingdom of Cambodia went through a brilliant developemental period from 10th to 13th century. In this period, the Cambodians founded the Angkor civilization with stone sculptural wonders such as statues, bas-relieves, castles, temples and citadels etc, especially in Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom.

Drawing inspiration from the Buddhist and Brahmanist themes, Cambodian craftsmen enable the Angkor stone sculptures to reach its zenith, with its deep expressive traits and national cultural feature. Most of their stone sculptures combined conventional indigenous culture and Indian cultural elements flexibly to reflect Cambodian’s fine taste in art and devoutness.
