Room 14 - Asian ceramics

Ceramics are created from clay, a kind of earth, that were first utilized by human beings about 10.000 years ago. Ceramics have shown the differences of shapes, decorations and the remarkable technological advances from pottery to porcelain. They have also developed a wide range of function in human society ranging from food preservation, religious artefacts and industrial applications. This has resulted in them being recognised as cultural artefacts and valuable art works.

Ceramics of Asian countries such as China, Japan, Thailand, Campuchia, Vietnam are introduced in this room. Through them, the development of ceramics and the national characteristics are expressed simply but originally.
